What's included in the evaluation?

Our 60-minute evaluation includes a comprehensive assessment, a parent interview, observation of your child during play, and a detailed plan of care with specific goals. You'll leave with clear next steps and recommendations — and a real understanding of your child's strengths and what's getting in the way.

What should we bring to the first visit?

Not much. Dress your child in comfortable clothes they can move in, and bring any prior evaluations, school reports, or IFSP/IEP paperwork if you have them. A snack and a drink help if your child gets hungry. Cheryl brings all the therapy toys and assessment materials — the most useful thing you can bring is your questions and everything you've been noticing at home. That parent perspective is a big part of a good evaluation.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions take place in your home. This lets therapy happen in your child's natural environment, makes it easier to fit into your family's routines, and gives Cheryl the chance to suggest strategies and modifications that actually work in your real living space — not a clinic that looks nothing like home.

How quickly will I see improvement?

Most families notice meaningful progress within 4–6 weeks. We send weekly parent updates and progress reports so you can track improvements in real time. How fast things move depends on your child's unique learning style, the consistency of sessions, and how often therapy strategies get reinforced at home between visits — that carryover is often what creates the most lasting gains.

Does the occupational therapist bring her own equipment?

Yes. Cheryl brings a comprehensive kit of specialized therapy tools to every session — sensory tools, fine motor manipulatives, adaptive equipment, and therapeutic resources. You don't need to buy anything. This keeps care consistent and evidence-based from one visit to the next.

Can siblings come along to sessions?

Yes — siblings are always welcome, and many families find it easier to bring everyone than to arrange childcare. For the evaluation, we'd love as much focused attention on your child as possible, so if you can arrange care for siblings during that first visit it helps. For regular sessions, Cheryl can often weave a sibling into an activity when it's therapeutically helpful, and when it isn't there's space for them to play nearby. Just tell us your family's setup and we'll make it work.

Do you take insurance, and how does payment work?

We are a private-pay practice, which means your child's care is decided by you and your therapist — never by an insurance reviewer. We provide superbills so you can seek out-of-network reimbursement, and we're happy to walk you through it.

Can we submit superbills for reimbursement?

Yes. After each session we'll give you a superbill with all the CPT codes and documentation you need to submit directly to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many families receive partial or full reimbursement. We're happy to walk you through the submission process the first time.

What's your cancellation policy?

We ask for 24 hours' notice so we can offer the slot to another family. We understand that illnesses and emergencies happen, and we'll always work with you to reschedule. Consistency is one of the biggest drivers of progress, so we encourage families to treat sessions as a priority — but we're human about real life, too.

Do you provide documentation for schools?

Yes. With your permission, Cheryl can provide a summary of goals, progress, and recommended accommodations you can share with your child's teacher or school team. If your child has or is seeking a 504 plan or IEP, we can contribute clinical input and recommendations, and we're happy to attend meetings by phone when it's helpful. The goal is consistency — the same supports following your child from the therapy room into the school day.
